"This tournament not only gives women the opportunity to get together, participate in a sport and have fun, but also allows them to give back to the community by donating to our supported charity." -Deb Giberson

The Blast Cup is about much more than just soccer. "This tournament not only gives women the opportunity to get together, participate in a sport and have fun, but also allows them to give back to the community by donating to our supported charity. It shows what great things women can accomplish when they work together."

People from all over Colorado will converge in Broomfield to have a blast playing and watching soccer. Friends and family will be kicking back on the sidelines, as well as visiting booths from local businesses.

Everybody scores, because each year a charity that supports women and/or children, and is NOT tax supported, is designated as the charity of choice. In the past, it was Denver Scores, a non-profit which teaches children about soccer and literacy. Donations from 400+ players and their families included various supplies needed for Denver Scores in Denver. The Women's Blast Cup raised large boxes filled with much needed supplies, thanks to all the players and their families. Last year, the women played for "Mount Saint Vincent's" which helps troubled kids. This year the tournament will collect donations for Soccer Dreams Without Borders. An organization that collects slightly used soccer gear and donates it to culturally diversified youth throughout the world including the U.S.A.

The tourney has grown each year since it's inception in 2000 by Deb Giberson. "I started the Women's Blast Cup in 2000 because I had always loved playing in the Kelley Cup where I used to live. I noticed that there weren't many women's soccer tournaments in this area, so I decided to do something about that. The first year was great, we had 13 teams. In just three years we have doubled to 26 teams." Deb's passion for soccer spans over a decade; she's been playing for 15 years, and sat on the Bay Area Women's Soccer League board which is a Women's soccer organization that averages about 60 teams in their league.

Deb also volunteered at the Kelley Cup and the Stockton Invitational which are women's tournaments in the Bay Area. A tourney takes a lot of work, and the entire tourney is organized by volunteers, all personally recruited by Deb through her sports, social and professional networks. The City and County of Broomfield has allowed the Blast Cup to obtain the soccer fields at the Broomfield County Commons Park this year which is a great place to hold a tournament. We'll have bathrooms with running water, lots of parking and a concession stand.

Colorado residents who would like to see some excellent soccer for free are invited to come to the Broomfield County Commons Park. There is also a dog park and other amenities for dogs, such as a doggie drinking fountain. Sponsors and firms wishing to donate supplies are asked to contact Deb. There is also space left for a few soccer or women-targeted vendor booths. There is no fee to have a booth; instead, the vendor is asked to make an in-kind donation to our chosen charity.
